Faces of the Revolution
Senior Minor Thesis
Faces of the Revolution is a photographic exploration of the prominent resistance movements that have swelled during our current political upheaval in the United States. Consisting primarily of portraits, the project tells the story of the unnamed participants who continue to show up, engage, and push for change within their respective causes.
This documentary project has been captured over the past year within the Massachusetts area, showcasing the political atmosphere of a primarily progressive population under the second Trump administration. The individuals depicted are not high-ranking political players; they are participants, performers, observers, and organizers. This decision was made to highlight these actions and provide a visual history of this moment of political unrest.
However, these images ultimately extend beyond their role as documentation of a specific moment. Within each portrait, viewers can find underlying themes of corruption that arise in a broken political system. These themes are not solely confined to the singular place and time the photos were taken in, but recur amongst systems of governance and power throughout history. The work, in this way, exists not only as a record of the present civil unrest, but as a reflection of the patterns that continue to define power.
